THE PLOT

They say this retelling is a sensational sung through pop showcase with 500 years of historical heartbreak! The incredible stories of Henry VIII’s wives may be history, but what if you put all these ladies together and had them belt it all out on stage, American Idol style? Well, SIX brings together Catherine of Aragon, Ann Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, and Catherine Parr. These women are brought together to sing through their life challenges, such as failure to give the king a male heir, getting annulled, or worse, beheaded! The sung through biographical pop bonanza will have the queens bust it all out on stage, who will win? Maybe the woman who had the worst of it all or maybe the one that King Henry VIII favored the most! We don’t know for sure. But you can catch the results when you see SIX at the San Diego Civic Theatre!

The musical that had West End and Broadway going crazy with ultra awesome pop songs is finally hitting the road in North America! SIX is this brilliant musical that debuted in Edinburgh Fringe in 2017. But it’s just too awesome to gatekeep and be shown in a small setting. So upon securing many interestests from theater producers, the musical finally went to London’s West End in 2019! Of course, the incredible epic is not just for UK fans. In the same year, the musical finally went on tour in the U.S. Then in 2021, the Broadway production was finally mounted. This 2025, the musical will continue making its rounds across key cities, including a coveted stopover in San Diego, California! From December 30, 2025 to January 4, 2026, you can catch SIX at the San Diego Civic Theatre. The stopover will deliver a total of eight performances.

CREATIVE TEAM & CAST

The musical features book, music and lyrics by fomer Cambridge University students turned Tony winners Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. The duo created this musical after watching a Beyonce concert and merged it with the history of Henry VIII’s wives. Upon being staged at the West End, the production featured direction by Tony nominated director Jamie Armitage. The show also brought in talented Olivier nominated choreographer, Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. The awesome design team includes Emma Bailey on scenic, Gabriella Slade on costume, Tim Deiling on lighting, and Paul Gatehouse on sound. The team included music orchestrator Tom Curran and supervisor Joe Beighton. 

Meanwhile, the US Tour cast includes Chani Masonet as Catherine of Aragon, Gaby Albo as Anne Boleyn, Kelly Denice Taylor as Jane Seymour, Danielle Mendoza as Anna of Cleves, Alize Cruz as Katherine Howard, and Tasia Jungbauer as Catherine Parr.

AWARDS

SIX received a lot of love during awards season in London and New York. The musicals bagged a ton of prestigious awards in both circuits. In London, Six received five Laurence Olivier nominations, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music. Over on Broadway, the musical was much, much more successful after it received eight Tony nominations and won Best Original Score and Best Costume Design. SIX also secured 11 Drama Desk nominations and won four awards including Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics. The musical also won three Outer Critics Circle Awards and secured a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album.
