Kamala Harris is an American leader, lawyer, and trailblazer born in Oakland, California. A graduate of Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Harris began her career as a prosecutor in Alameda County before rising to serve as District Attorney of San Francisco and later as Attorney General of California. Known for her sharp intellect and fearless pursuit of justice, Harris built her reputation on championing civil rights, consumer protection, and criminal justice reform. In 2017, Harris became the first Black woman and first South Asian American to represent California in the United States Senate, where she quickly earned recognition for her incisive questioning in high-profile hearings. Just a few years later, history was made once again when she was elected Vice President of the United States in 2020 — becoming the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to hold the office. Her tenure as Vice President placed her at the center of some of the most pressing issues facing the nation, from public health and voting rights to foreign policy and economic recovery.
