Synopsis

Set in the diverse and gritty streets of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the story follows 17-year-old Ali, a spirited teen’s path to finding herself amid her cautious single mother’s watchful eye. Follow Ali as she rebels and finds her musical gift through piano lessons with her sage mentor, Miss Liza Jane, and sparks a love story with street drummer Knuck. Tensions rise with personal conflicts involving her absentee father, Davis. Through successes and challenges, Ali learns to accept her identity, her roots, and the neighborhood that defines her. This universal and heartfelt coming-of-age journey is brimming with defiance, love, and the power of music.

Hell's Kitchen began its journey in 2011, based on Alicia Keys' personal experiences. It premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2023 to rave reviews, extending its run before moving to Broadway in 2024, with previews starting March 28 and an official opening on April 20. The show garnered 13 Tony Award nominations in 2024, securing Best Actress in a Leading Role for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress for Kecia Lewis. In 2025, it won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
