Beauty And The Beast at San Diego Civic Theatre

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, premiered on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to try and hide this, it was overshadowed because of the success of the Lion King. Since that date, there have been different attempts to bring the story back into the premium theater scene. After an amazing run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this revival is going on a US tour. One of the shows is going to be in San Diego, California on Tuesday 7th July 2026.

In previous iterations of the play, the design of the set and the tone of the costumes were both rather dark. This put a lot of weight on The Beast character. This new version is taking a completely different approach. The emphasis is more on Belle, as it the story demands. This time around, the audience is welcomed by creatively designed props and bright costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the jolly soundtrack, you can see why both the British and Australian theater goers flocked to this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the magnificent entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the ideal counterpart to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that people were incredibly engaged by this point in the play. Things likely won't be any different on this night at San Diego Civic Theatre and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's entrance and musical solo tend to be loved by fans. It's truly Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've chosen a great actress for the role. By the end of the night, you'll be singing and dancing as you walk out of San Diego Civic Theatre.
