THE PLOT
Beetlejuice is a sneaky demon. He causes the demise of married couple Adam and Barbara Maitland. Their spirits after their death would need some guidance but Beetlejuice burns the Handbook for the Recently Deceased. Now, he’s tricking the Maitlands to haunt their home instead while the new (and alive) family, the Deetz move in. Now, upon this supposed haunting, Beetlejuice meets the Deetz daughter Lydia, whose trauma of losing her mother gave her the ability to see sinister things, including Beetlejuice. The schemy demon then finds his target. He needs a living person to say his name three times. Now what horror will unfold when Beetlejuice’s name is chanted? Find out when you catch Beetlejuice the Musical at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

The musical was compared to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. “he musical brings a Deadpool-ian approach to what feels essentially like a mash-up between the original 1988 movie and the animated series that followed,” said Entertainment Weekly. The review also raved about how Beetlejuice exploded onto the stage atop a giant puppeteered sandworm like a rodeo clown. Ultimately, the review called the musical “a feast for the eyes and soul.”
