Les Miserables at San Diego Civic Theatre

Since the musical's creation in the late 1900s, Les Misérables, or Les Mis, has risen up from a short-lived musical sung in French produced in Paris to one of the most top-rated and hit musicals in the world. Over the last four decades that the musical has been ongoing, the show has toured in 53 countries, in 22 different languages, and has been watched by over 130 million people in each locale visited.

In September, the musical’s run brings it to a new location in San Diego, where Les Mis will be held in San Diego Civic Theatre on Tuesday 16th September 2025. San Diego Civic Theatre was made to be a landmark of the city as the finest theater venue of San Diego, containing a well-crafted stage and seating setup that is large enough to have a show of this standard, in addition to appropriate facilities that are available within the venue.

Les Misérables is all about the life of Jean Valjean, a convicted commoner desperately wanting to start anew after his escape from the law. His whole journey, presented through two emotional acts, are performed with everything lyricized from the opening number to the finish of the play. The Broadway musical being lyricized from beginning to end is a storytelling tactic that this musical has over other known West End shows, and is the primary cause why each individual song performance never fails in its objective of in every word or note performed.

The musical is creatively executed and due to this style, the show is also full of unforgettable song numbers. Interestingly, despite the large number of numbers that can be watched in this grand musical, each cast member in the play is able to be highlighted, with each individual performance given as much emotional depth as the rest. No one who has watched a showing of Les Mis can fail to recall Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream”, which carries with the song a heavy heart and has been used endlessly by famous icons in modern TV. “Bring Him Home” also intensely creates one of the musical's best moments, revealing to us the very soul of Jean Valjean’s character in only one completely spectacular song.
